Family Ceremonies

A wonderful way in which to welcome a new baby, or older child, into their family and community. People often ask what is the difference between a Christening and a naming ceremony? A Christening welcomes a child into a faith whereas a naming ceremony welcomes a child into their family and community. At a naming ceremony the child’s parent(s), grandparents and/or adults who will play a special role in the child’s life will have the opportunity to make promises as well as celebrating the joy of the child arriving in the world. The people who are chosen to support the child can be called anything you would like them to be – they can be Godparents, fairy Godparents, supporting adults, guide parents or something else of your choosing.  You may, or may not, want to include a religious aspect to your ceremony - it's up to you.  The naming ceremony created will be unique to each child, will tell their story and will celebrate their arrival in the world.

When an adoption is finally legalised for a child or children, it is a momentous event in the lives of the children, their parents and the wider family and friends. As with all milestones in life, taking time to recognise and celebrate the moment and reflect on the importance of it is heart-warming, affirming and joyful. We can create a ceremony that reflects who you are as a family, your story and the promises you would like to make in the presence of your family and friends.

When families come together and make the decision that they will be living together – parents, step-parents, brothers and sisters, step brothers and sisters and/or half brothers and sisters, there will likely have been a journey to this point. You have reached an important milestone in your life when you decide to live together as one family and sometimes it is helpful to have a ceremony to mark this moment in all your lives. There are so many different ways to create a ceremony of this type and yours will be unique to your family’s story.
